Forestry Operations Updates:

  • Junia Logging Update - The cutting phase is wrapping up at the top of the mountain. We've been evaluating the terrain and making plans for the rebuild. Janicki helped us remove stumps and major slash piles in the corridors the last couple days, which should help speed up the rebuilding process a bit, but there's still a lot of work to do, so we'll be hosting a lot of volunteer days coming up to get these trails open and rideable again!

Good news: Mohawk is fully open again! You can access it by climbing up Wonderland and taking the hike-a-bike to the top of the trail. The loggers will be hauling logs for the next couple weeks, so the top of the mountain will remain closed, which means Larry's Pizza, Spacewolf, and Lunazul will also remain closed for now. To read more about why this is happening, you can check out this piece put together by Janicki and this piece published by Cascadia Daily.

  • Aerial Spraying Upcoming - There is aerial spraying planned at some point in the areas near Vitamin R, The Finger, Lower Happy Hour, and Lower Devilcross, but we are uncertain when it will happen at this point since it's weather dependent.

  • Log Hauling Route - The Wall is closed for uphill traffic during the day for the foreseeable future as logging trucks will be coming down the road. Please climb Tough Love or Intestine/Cleavage or Intestine/Son of Sam instead.

Trail Updates:

  • Mohawk is Open! - Mohawk is fully open again! Access the top of the trail by climbing up Wonderland and taking the hike-a-bike to the start of the trail.

  • Cedar Fever Update - Jayce is digging into the lower section below Cleavage and that section will remain closed until he's finished and it's ready to ride.

  • Mabel's Update - We've been out doing handwork, but are still a few weeks from having Mabel's back open, so please respect the closure. If people ride it before it's open, it slows down our progress and keeps the trail closed for longer. Lower Mabel's is still open and rideable!

  • Cleator Road back Open! - Cleator Road is back open after being graded

  • Whatcom World Champs is tomorrow! - We're hosting the inaugural Whatcom World Champs on Saturday, November 7th. This is a three-stage enduro race on Galbraith. Racers will be taking on Dad Bod, Orient Express, and Pump Track > Eagle Scout > Atomic Dog!

  • Downed Tree Season is Here! - Falltime is here and that means moisture, wind storms, and downed trees! Be aware and prepared as you're out riding. If you come across a downed tree that needs to be removed, please report those on Trailforks (or email trails@wmbcmtb.org). If the tree magically disappears with the help of a Trail Fairy, please also report that on Trailforks so we don't send one of our trail crew on a wild goose chase.

  • Galbraith Winter Trail Running Series - The winter trail running series on Galbraith is back with a new look. The first race is next Saturday, November 14th. You can find more info here.

  • Lower Happy Hour & Lower Devilcross Update - We're working with the builders to get these reopened. We'll share more info as we can.

  • Happy Devil & Quick Way Out Update - Thanks for everyone that helped with handwork on these trails recently! While these trails are both passable, they'll remain closed until we are able to open up the trails that drop you into that zone (The Finger, Happy Hour, Devilcross).

  • Hunting Season - Please be aware we're in the midst of Hunting Season, so if you're riding in areas where there may be hunting, make sure to wear bright, high visibility clothing (ideally blaze orange).

  • Olsen Creek Development - We've reached the end of the watershed window, so work has slowed at Olsen Creek. Until the watershed window opens next year, we'll be focused on basic maintenance to address any safety and sustainability issues.

  • Recent Trail Work - For the most up-to-date information on recent trail work completed, check out the Reports section on Trailforks.
